Foxwoods. The MGM Grand in Vegas. The Beau Rivage. The Commerce Casino and the Trump Taj Mahal. These are just some of the locations the World Poker Tour Boot Camp has set up shop in over the past year. Notably missing from the list, however, is a venue in the Sunshine State, but that will change this month. “We’ve been so busy expanding our footprint around the country to meet consumer demand that we took our eye off of our own backyard,” says Ron Rubens, founder of the WPT Boot Camp. “Its been over a year since our last Florida Boot Camp, but the good news is that not only will we be hosting this one Boot Camp here in Florida, but we are also actively planning on running two to three more Florida Boot Camps in 2009.” The Isle in Pompano Beach will host the November 15-16 Cash-Game Strategy version of the WPT Boot Camp. This location provides Boot Camp attendees with a unique “split location” of hotel and casino. Rebecca Joy, director of operations for the WPT Boot Camp, added, “This is the first time we are hosting a Boot Camp at a casino property that does not have its own hotel accommodations. However, since many of the attendees will be South Florida residents and the fact that there is a hotel just a few minutes away, we don’t feel that this split location is a detractor at all.” Top names at the camp include “Cowboy” Kenna James, who will bring his enthusiasm, knowledge and overall love of the game to the Boot Camp. And one of the top female players in the world, Clonie Gowen, will share the “classroom” with Kenna. Rick Fuller and Nick Brancato, two of the three individuals who wrote the course curriculum, will be on hand as well. Call 1-866-WPT-BOOT or visit www.wptbootcamp.com for more info.
