When the Wall Street turmoil began in September, many Americans reacted by…playing more poker. Traffic and game-play at duplicatepoker.com spiked 25 percent since the first rumors began flying in early September, according to the site, which features a legal brand of skill-based poker. Website traffic is up 25 percent, duration of play is up 16 percent to 2.45 hours per player, and total sums wagered and won are up 20.6 percent, reported Duplicate Poker’s Chief Marketing Officer Daniel Flamberg. Said Flamberg: “At a time when we are all worried about our money and generally feel helpless, it looks like Americans are seeking solace in a game they know and love, where the rules are clear, the action is transparent and the outcome can be affected by our own skills.” Duplicate Poker, where the same cards are dealt to players sitting at different tables, recently welcomed its 250,000th player. The site now has players on five different continents.
